What are stem cell lines?

Posted March 13, 2024

Answer

Stem cell lines are groups of identical stem cells that are cultured in a lab for various purposes. The newly established stem cell lines retain the genetic composition of the original stem cells. They are also able to divide almost indefinitely and are able to differentiate into specialized cells. Once established, stem cell lines are essentially immortal. They may be frozen for use at a later time or distributed to researchers who are interested in using the same cell line for related experiments. All of these characteristics make stem cell lines especially valuable in regenerative medicine and genetic research.
