Bacteria are microscopic, single-celled organisms. There are millions of different types of bacteria that exist in a variety of shapes and sizes. They have simple cell structures and lack a nucleus. Bacteria can be beneficial, aiding in processes such as digestion and nutrient cycling, or harmful, causing infections and diseases.
