What are acidic amino acids?

Posted October 2, 2024

Answer

Acidic amino acids are a type of polar amino acid that carry a negative charge at neutral pH levels. This negative charge arises from their acidic side chains, which contain additional carboxylic acid groups apart from the carboxyl group attached to the central carbon atom. These carboxylic acid groups lose protons (hydrogen ions), resulting in the negative charge.
