Is ATP produced during catabolism?

Posted August 30, 2024

Answer

Yes, ATP is produced during catabolism.

Catabolism is the metabolic pathway that involves the degradation or breakdown of complex molecules into simpler, easier-to-digest molecules. When the complex molecules are degraded, molecular energy stored in their bonds is released in catabolic pathways. The released energy is harvested and used to produce ATP, which is then stored to be used by anabolic processes.
