How does DNA replication relate to mitosis?

Answer
During mitosis, the cell breaks apart into two identical cells. Each of the two new cells has the same DNA and number of chromosomes as the parent cell. In other words, the main function of mitosis is nuclear division which relies on the process of DNA replication. Mitosis and DNA replication only increases the genetic material or DNA. The chromosome number remains the same in both, the parental cell as well as the daughter cells. This helps to maintain ploidy of the cell. Ploidy refers to the number of sets of chromosomes in a cell.
