How are polymeric micelles different from traditional micelles?

Posted August 22, 2024

Answer

Polymeric micelles (PM) differ from traditional micelles in several key ways:

  • PMs are typically spherical and larger in size with a diameter of 10–100 nm.
  • PMs have a lower critical micelle concentration (CMC), however, they exist in equilibrium with isolated macromolecules.
  • PMs exhibit enhanced thermodynamic and kinetic stability compared to traditional micelles.
