Can atoms be subdivided?

Answer
According to Dalton's Atomic Theory, atoms cannot be subdivided practically. Atoms were thought to be the smallest particles, which could not be created, subdivided or destroyed. However, later studies proved that every atom consists of even smaller articles known as subatomic particles. Every atom is made up of three subatomic particles – protons, neutrons, and electrons. Atoms can be further subdivided using nuclear fission and fusion techniques. In chemical reactions, atoms can be combined, separated, or rearranged.
