Are MiRNA involved in diseases?

Yes, miRNAs have been linked to various diseases, such as different forms of cancer, neurological disorders, and heart problems. Research has revealed that miRNAs can either suppress tumors or promote cancer. This means they play crucial roles in the initiation and progression of cancer, as well as in predicting the outcome of the disease. When miRNAs are not regulated properly, it is often associated with cancer development. Alterations in miRNA levels have been seen in several neurological disorders, including  Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease,  Tourette's syndrome, Huntington's disease, and prion-related neurodegeneration. Clinical studies have shown that miRNAs play key roles in cardiac hypertrophy (enlargement of the heart) and heart failure. Certain miRNAs are found to be improperly regulated in diseased hearts. Additionally, changes in the levels of these miRNAs (either increased or decreased) can significantly contribute to various heart conditions.
