What is the difference between organ culture and tissue culture?

Tissue culture is a technique in which cell or tissue fragments are removed from a host and then artificially grown on a nutrient medium under aseptic and controlled conditions. It is commonly used in plant biology research and in the commercial production of plants to produce large quantities of plant clones.
Organ culture is a technique that stemmed from tissue culture methods. Instead of tissue fragments it involves the removal of a whole organ or parts of an organ for its subsequent growth on a nutrient medium under aseptic and controlled conditions in vitro. The main objective of organ culture is to preserve the organs normal architectural and physiological functions. Unlike tissue cultures, which can be grown for extensive periods of time, organ cultures can typically be maintained for hours or days and require perfusion with oxygenated blood or serum.
