The toxicity level of lead is influenced mainly by the route of exposure and gender. LD50 of lead refers to the amount of lead that can result in the death of 50% of a species. It is indicated as milligrams per kilogram of body weight.
LD50 for lead 4665 mg/kg of bodyweight in males and 5610 mg/kg of body weight in females. It has been reported that 714 mg/kg of lead acetate (i.e., about 450 mg/kg of lead) is the lethal oral dose for human.
