Answer
Prolonged endoplasmic reticulum stress caused by excessive accumulation of unfolded and misfolded proteins in the ER may contribute to the development and progression of a number of diseases in humans. These may include type 2 diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, cystic fibrosis, neurodegeneration, cancer, spastic paraplegia, and liver disease.
