How do I measure the concentration of zinc ions?
Posted June 13, 2019
I’d like to quantitate the concentration of zinc ions in both biological and environmental samples; e.g. cell culture, plasma, water, etc. Do you provide any products for this purpose?
Yes, we offer two zinc ion quantitation kits: Amplite™ Fluorimetric Zinc Ion Quantitation Kit and Amplite™ Colorimetric Zinc Ion Quantitation Kit. Both kits provide a convenient and robust method for detecting zinc ion concentration in different types of biological samples; e.g. serum, plasma and urine. Our fluorimetric kit utilizes Metal Fluor™ Zn 520 (Ex/Em = 485/525 nm). Upon binding to zinc, Metal Fluor™ Zn 520 exhibits a significant fluorescence enhancement, greater than 200-300 folds. Our colorimetric kit utilizes Zn-620™. In a zinc-free solution, the absorbance of Zn-620™ is at 480 nm. When bound to zinc, Zn-620™ enhances its absorption to 620 nm. Both probes have high Zn2+-specificity with little responses to other metals, including Ca2+, Mg2+, Mn2+, and Cu2+.
