RH 421, also called N-(4-Sulfobutyl)-4-(4-(4- (dipentylamino)phenyl)butadienyl)pyridinium, is a neuron-tracing dye. It is used for monitoring membrane potential, synaptic activity and ion channel activity of neurons.
